Frequently asked questions

Is DentCheck official or government-run?

No. DentCheck is an independent tool that organizes publicly available government information to make it easier to understand. It is not affiliated with any government or dental program, and its results are not official eligibility decisions.

Is it free?

Yes. DentCheck is free to use.

How accurate are the results?

Eligibility logic is checked against primary government sources. Fee figures are estimates: exact and official for British Columbia and Alberta where provincial guide data is available, and derived from the 2026 CDCP fee schedule for other provinces. Your dentist sets their own fees and may charge more or less. Always confirm with the program and your provider before treatment.

What information do you collect about me?

DentCheck does not ask for your name, contact information, or any identifying details. It collects anonymous, aggregate usage data only (see the Privacy Policy). Your answers are used to calculate your results in your browser and are not tied to your identity.

Does DentCheck work in every province and territory?

It covers federal programs (CDCP, NIHB, IFHP, VAC) and the provincial and territorial assistance programs across Canada. Quebec is partially supported: because Quebec's programs and the CDCP do not coordinate and Quebec fee data isn't available, the tool guides you to confirm costs with your dentist.

Why does it ask for my income?

Several programs, including the CDCP, set eligibility and co-payment levels based on adjusted family net income. The tool uses your income only to check which programs apply. It is never stored in a way tied to you, only as a broad band for anonymous usage statistics.

The estimate doesn't match what my dentist quoted. Why?

Fee guides are suggested pricing, and dentists set their own fees. For most provinces, DentCheck shows an estimate derived from the CDCP fee schedule, not your province's official guide. Treat the number as a ballpark, and ask your dentist to submit a predetermination through Sun Life for an exact figure.

Who built this?

DentCheck was built independently as a project to make Canadian dental coverage easier to navigate. It was created by Jerry Yin and Anna Tikhonova.
